Truck/Loader/Waste Worker – Part Time – Environmental Services (2 positions) – Apply by: Nov 3

POSITION: TRUCK / LOADER / GARBAGE WORKER (part time) (2 positions)
REPORTING TO: Solid Waste Manager
HOURS OF WORK: 24 hours or less per week
SALARY: $32.40 HOURLY/ as per Environmental Services Collective Agreement


GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Perform various duties including, but not limited to:
    • Collection of garbage;
    • Ability to operate trucks, heavy equipment and forklift;
    • Attend to vehicle loads to and from landfill site and recycling area;
    • Measure and collect fees, as required;
    • Open landfill site gate according to schedule;
    • Verify and check all in-coming traffic and related paperwork;
    • Keep written records or required data (i.e. daily site inspection);
    • Keep updated records of cash, cheques and receipts for all monetary transactions;
    • Give directions to customers as to proper unloading procedures;
    • Keep site clean and safe according to MOE certificate of approval requirements;
    • Have all contractors and site visitors sign Safety Policy document;
    • Other duties as assigned within the general scope of the position;
  • Ensure safety of self and of others at all times
  • Hours will vary and are not guaranteed

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 education preferred; equivalent experience may be considered;
  • Must possess & maintain a valid “Class DZ” driver’s license and have a clean driver’s abstract;
  • Must be punctual and reliable;
  • Must have basic mathematical skills;
  • Must have First Aid & WHMIS training;
  • Must be of a physical condition that allows him/her to perform work as assigned;
  • Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance and safety checks on vehicles and heavy equipment, etc.;
  • Ability to work well alone or as part of a team;
  • Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner;
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision;
  • Ability to work outdoors and withstand extremes in weather conditions;
  • Availability to be called upon on an occasional basis;
  • Availability to report to work on short notice.

Rink Attendant – Community Services – Apply now for the 2025-2026 season
POSITION RINK ATTENDANT
REPORTING TO Facilities Manager, Community Services
HOURS OF WORK 0-24 hours per week, as assigned
SALARY $17.60 / hour

 

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Rink Attendant will be responsible for assisting with ice maintenance, cleaning and facility maintenance at various recreation facilities within the Municipality of West Nipissing. The candidate will also be responsible for patrolling public skating to ensure the safety of patrons.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for enforcement of rink rules and regulations.
  • Assist maintenance with janitorial and ice maintenance duties.
  • Patrol municipal rinks to ensure safety of community members.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to skate.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service orientation.
  • Able to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • 14 years old or older.
  • Proficiency in both official languages (written and oral) an asset.
  • Valid First Aid, CPR and AED certificates are considered an asset.

Job Description – Rink Attendant (PDF)

Lifeguards – West Nipissing Community and Recreation Centre

POSITION: Lifeguard (Community Services)
REPORTING TO: Recreation and Fitness Programming Coordinator
HOURS OF WORK: 0-35 hours per week, as assigned (includes evenings and weekends)
SALARY: $17.00–$21.00


The Lifeguard is responsible for supervising and overseeing swimmers in and around the pool area, and acting immediately to ensure the safety of individuals in the event of an emergency. The Lifeguard will also perform water rescues, and provide first aid, emergency care and treatment as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises swimming activities at the West Nipissing Recreation Centre Pool and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
  • Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatic emergency procedures as required.
  • Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
  • Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents.
  • Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at the West Nipissing Recreation Centre in order to determine any potential dangers or hazards.
  • Ability to adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of the visitors and other staff.
  • Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions.
  • Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety.
  • Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.

Qualifications and Licensing Requirements:

The following licences and current certifications are preferred: 

  • National Lifeguard certificate from an accredited agency. 
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C from an accredited agency.

The following minimum licences and current certifications are required:

  • Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Cross certificate 
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR-B

Successful applicants will be required to achieve and maintain the Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard certificate and Standard First Aid with CPR-C upon hire.  Successful applicants whose certifications are expired or no longer current will be recertified at no cost.

Crossing Guards – Sturgeon Falls and Verner

POSITION: Crossing Guard
TYPE: 
Part-time/Casual (from September to June)
REPORTING TO: Coordinator – Community Services
HOURS OF WORK: 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday to Friday

Hours of work are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday to Friday, during the school year (September to June).

The Municipality of West Nipissing is currently seeking to hire two Crossing Guards for the following locations:

  • Sturgeon Falls
    • Ethel Street
    • Coursol Road

REQUIREMENTS

  • Main duty to safely cross all school-aged children up to and including grade 8.
  • Document and communicate all incidents and/or unsafe conditions to management, school officials and/or the Nipissing West OPP.
  • Must be able to extend an arm out parallel to shoulder holding a “STOP” sign (weight of approximately 1 pound) for up to one minute frequently.
  • Must be able to stand for a period of 45 minutes, twice a day.
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Be able to verbally communicate in French.
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check will be a condition of employment
